Developing an evidence-base to inform retirement home policy development using an equity and diversity lens.
About
There is a need to develop an evidence-base that draws upon population level data and lived experiences to describe disparities experienced by older adults from minority or marginalized groups living in retirement homes and long-term care facilities. Mixed methods can be used to describe issues of retirement home use, choice, and care quality across equity groups. Exploring the intersections of income and linguistic minority status with other equity variables (sex/gender, race/ethnicity, rurality, etc.) can help us understand residents’ decision-making and care experiences in retirement homes versus long-term care facilities and to use these findings to propose policy options to inform future equity, diversity, and inclusion-focused reform in the retirement home sector.
