Understanding food insecurity in longer-living older adults aging in place.
About
Food insecurity is an ongoing challenge facing many older adults aging at home in rural areas especially impacting those with limited mobility, limited food access, and experiencing cognitive impairment. In part, due to the stigma associated with food insecurity, existing interventions to address this challenge have seen limited success. However, we do not know much about the lived experiences of food insecure older adults, particularly longer-living older adults (70+), who are aging at home. This project aims to describe the experiences and expressed needs of food insecure, community-dwelling, longer-living older adults in hopes that we can gather evidence to help guide and inform the design of a food insecurity screening and assessment tool with accompanying intervention for testing in a rural Ontario Family Health Team.
